Dryer fires happen; there are over 15,000 each year in North America. In Nova Scotia, we do not hear them mentioned very often but ask most people and they know someone who has had a dryer fire!

Warning signs include:

- Excess lint left on clothes

- Increased drying time (surpassing 35-40 minutes)

- Not lint visible on lint screen

- Clothes are abnormally hot

- Dryer repeatedly shuts off

Before cleaning build up in your dryer, you may experience slow dry times, higher energy and repair costs, and, most importantly, a potential fire hazard. After cleaning your dryer, you may see a change in the drying time resulting in lower energy costs, less strain on your dryer, and less of a chance of a fire hazard.
